Chicken meat exports grew 5.7% in March

Brazilian exports of chicken meat (in natura and processed products included) totalled 418.8 thousand tonnes in March, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). This figure is 5.7% higher than the volume seen in the third month of 2021, 396 thousand tonnes.

March export revenue reached US$ 771.1 million, a figure 27.8% higher than the result recorded in the same period last year, US$ 603.6 million.

Chicken meat exports reached 1.142 million tonnes in the first quarter, up 10.2% from the same period of 2021, with 1.036 million tonnes.

In terms of quarterly revenue, sales totalled US$ 2.051 billion, a number 31.5% higher than the first quarter of 2021, with US$ 1.559 billion.

“The Brazilian animal protein industry is strengthening its presence in the international market given the favourable scenario for imports in the global market, which is still struggling with the effects of various Avian Influenza outbreaks among large producers and exporters. In this context, the fact that Brazil has never registered a single case of the disease in its territory stands as a great advantage for Brazil. Furthermore, the country has used the good outflow of exports to compensate for the losses generated by the historically high production costs,” comments ABPA’s president, Ricardo Santin.

China is once again Brazil’s largest consumer of animal protein in terms of monthly consumption. In March alone, China imported 60.3 thousand tonnes, a volume 8.4% higher than that recorded in the third month of 2021, 55.6 thousand tonnes.

Other leading destinations in terms of chicken meat exports in March were: Japan (2nd place) with 39.1 thousand tonnes (+10.6%); United Arab Emirates (3rd place), with 36.1 thousand tonnes (+59.6%), South Africa (4th place), with 33.3 thousand tonnes (+11.3%) and Mexico (5th place), with 29.2 thousand tonnes (+301.9%).

“With the conflict in Eastern Europe, Brazil has been increasingly called upon to strengthen its position as the world’s leading exporter of chicken meat. Because international supply is growing scarcer, Brazil finds itself in a position of becoming a haven for the more than 140 countries that buy our protein. As a result, all the main Brazilian chicken meat export destinations have increased their imports; China being the highlight,” assesses ABPA’s Markets Director, Luis Rua.
