Argentine truckers end strike that threatened grain transportation

Argentine truckers agreed, on the night of the 14th, to end a strike that had paralysed grain transport in the country since the 11th, the Transport Ministry said.
Truck drivers represented by the Federation of Argentine Transporters demanded higher freight rates. Negotiations with the government on the 13th did not progress. However, a source told Reuters it was “finally resolved with an (increase of) 20% and an immediate end to the strike”.
Nearly 85% of Argentina’s grain output is transported by trucks to ports. Thus, having Argentine truckers on strike threatened the outflow of exports out of the country, which ranks high among the world’s biggest food exporters.
Argentina registered a monthly inflation rate of 6.7% in March, bringing the annual inflation rate to 55.1%.
The Federation also complained about fuel shortages precisely when the demand to move soybean and corn yields grows.
