On April 15th, a fire broke out in Warehouse 3 of Companhia das Docas do Estado da Bahia (Codeba), in the region of the Port of Salvador, in the commercial district. The fire started around 12:30 am and the Fire Department was called.
The pier that caught fire was a storage place for cellulose, a highly flammable raw ingredient for paper. Firefighters employed two towing ships as well as at least three company vehicles to tackle the fire.
The flames jeopardized the building’s structure, and a gas central nearby had to be turned off to avoid an explosion.
Because of the fire, traffic on Avenida da França was restricted to one lane. According to Transalvador, the vehicles were diverted to a nearby street.
The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
