On May 14th, the Port of Angra dos Reis celebrated its 90th anniversary and the port authority that oversees it, Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro, used the occasion to report on ongoing structural improvement projects at the Angra dos Reis Port Terminal (TPAR). These projects shall increase its operational capacity and flow of goods and supplies.
According to manager Anderson Pereira, increasing the terminal’s draft from 8.5 meters to 10 meters and expanding the retro area by another 50 thousand m² are among the leasing company’s planned projects. Furthermore, according to the port manager, the future reactivation of the Barra Mansa-Angra railway will benefit the terminal’s logistics.
The studies presented at the renewal of the lessee’s contract foresaw investments of around R$ 85 million in 2024 and 2025. Approximately 94% of this value will be redirected to supporting offshore operations and 6% to a receptive passenger terminal.
Competitive advantages
The Port of Angra dos Reis, located in the sheltered waters of Ilha Grande Bay, 200 kilometers from the Santos Basin, where Brazil’s largest pre-salt fields are located, is primarily used for offshore support activities.
With a total area of 87,000 m² and 400 meters of pier extension, TPAR has a Fluid Plant with a storage capacity of 43,000 barrels and a daily manufacturing capacity of 6,000 barrels of chloride brines, in addition to the manufacturing and treatment capacity of synthetic drilling fluid (1,000 barrels per tank).
The terminal also has a storage area for chemical products such as coarse salt and other inputs used to manufacture and treat synthetic and brine-based fluids.
