Apple exports fell by 60% in the first four months
May, 25, 2022 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202221
Brazilian fresh apple exports decreased from January to April, according to data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex). The volume retreated 60% compared to last year’s same period, totaling only 23,860 tonnes. Revenue fell 63% in the same comparison period, totaling US$ 16.74 million (FOB).
According to the producers consulted by Hortifruti/Cepea, the number and revenue of exports fell because of the reduction in crop yields in the 2021/22 harvest (estimated at 30%) and increased production in competing countries like South Africa and New Zealand. It is also worth mentioning that trading with Russia, one major buyer of Brazilian apples, is now hard to pursue.
See below the track record of Brazilian apple exports in the months of 2021 and 2022 that recorded such shipments. The data below was provided by Datamar’s service DataLiner.
