China’s largest rail car manufacturer CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd., recently signed an online contract with global iron ore giant Vale to export 62 main rail cars. This is the first time a Chinese company will export railroad cars to Brazil.
Vale operates the only two railroads in the country that provide passenger services, Estrada de Ferro Vitória-Minas (EFVM) and Estrada de Ferro Carajás (EFC), connecting capital cities and important ports in several states in Brazil’s southeast and northeast.
Under the contract, CRRC Qingdao Sifang will supply 62 new cars for these two important rail lines, including executive, economy, dining, and power generation wagons. The design, manufacture, delivery, and maintenance will be in accordance with Brazilian, American, and European standards.
The new batch of wagons is to be delivered in 2024. Once fully operational, the new cars will significantly improve the passenger capacity of Brazil’s main railroad and effectively improve the travel quality of the local population.
CRRC Qingdao Sifang has been actively involved in the Brazilian market for many years. The urban rail train provided by this Chinese company for São Paulo’s Line 13, the first airport express line in South America, went into operation in 2020.
