Maersk launches integrated service in ECSA countries

Danish business conglomerate A.P. Møller – Mærsk A/S launched a new end-to-end integrated service this week to transport and provide services for containerized cargo by land and sea on the East Coast of South America. The service covers Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay.

The new service is a result of the restructuring, and the merger of Maersk Line with Damco Supply Chain Services announced last September.

Maersk hopes the integrated service will provide a complete set of solutions, including customs clearance, goods tracking, inventory management, and terminal handling, as well as an integrated network of trucks, rail transport, terminals, and vessels. The company is open to third-party partnerships to develop the end-to-end logistics service on the East Coast of South America.

The new solutions should give Maersk an advantage if events like last year’s trucker’s strike are repeated. According to Portos e Navios, Maersk has invested over US$4bn in Brazil since 2008, excluding the acquisition of Hamburg Sud.
