The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, published on his social media profiles a brief account of his telephone conversation with President Jair Bolsonaro, which took place on Monday, July 18. According to the Ukrainian leader, the discussion revolved around the importance o resuming grain exports to avoid a “global food crisis.”
Had a conversation with President of Brazil @jairbolsonaro. Informed about the situation on the front. Discussed the importance of resuming 🇺🇦 grain exports to prevent a global food crisis provoked by Russia. I call on all partners to join the sanctions against the aggressor.

Last week, Bolsonaro announced, in a statement alongside Hungarian President Katalin Novák, that he would contact the Ukrainian president. It was the first time they had spoken since the start of the five-month war with Russia.
Ukraine is an essential supplier of wheat to Brazil. In recent weeks, Bolsonaro has expressed concern about decreased grain trade and the consequent increase in market prices.
On the other hand, unlike most Western leaders, Bolsonaro has not condemned the invasion led by Russian President Vladimir Putin and has even tried to expand trade relations with the Kremlin. The most recent initiative involves importing diesel.
