Brazil’s Minister of Infrastructure, Marcelo Sampaio, said on August 4th, in a publication via Twitter, that the government will send the Port of Santos privatization studies to the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) still in this month. In the post, the minister reinforced the government’s intention to hold the auction in December.
“We inform firsthand that we will forward to the TCU, still this August, the studies for privatization of the Port of Santos. The auction will be in December 2022. So let’s keep forward, ensuring that Brazilian infrastructure will receive the investments it deserves,” said Sampaio on Twitter.
The possibility of completing the event this year is seen with increasing suspicion by players in the port industry and the government. To hold the auction in December, the government expects TCY to approve the privatization by October. The Court, however, may take longer to analyze the project.
