Port of Paranaguá tests multi-operator model per ship
Aug, 10, 2022 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202232
Changes in the model for unloading vessels that dock in Paranaguá are being carried out by the public company Portos do Paraná. Since March, two operators can be responsible for unloading the same vessel.
Previously, the rule stated that whoever possessed 51% or more of the cargo should complete the entire procedure. Now, regardless of the proportion, the two companies with the largest amount operate together the landing. According to the CEO, Luiz Fernando Garcia da Silva, this measure had been demanded by clients for several years but had faced several challenges.
However, the exclusivity in landing operations resulted in complaints from the companies that were forced to join efforts despite having a lower percentage of cargoes on a ship. Luiz Fernando Garcia comments that this is not a definitive change. Instead, the model is being tested to see if it will become the norm and that, so far, it has shown competitive advantages, receiving praise from some customers.
