Bill 12/22 of the Brazilian National Congress provides a supplementary credit of BRL 849 thousand to port authority Companhia Docas do Ceará (CDC) – a public company with close ties to the Ministry of Infrastructure in charge of managing the Port of Fortaleza.
These funds shall be used for technical assessment and drafting executive projects to demolish berth 103 at the Port of Fortaleza.
The berth needs to be rebuilt and deepened to allow the passage of larger vessels through the port.
Doing so will promote the growth of wheat cargo handling and competitiveness gains in the local wheat market.
See below the track record of exports and imports of containers at the Port of Fortaleza from January 2019 to June 2022. The data below is from Datamar’s maritime trade intelligence service DataLiner.

The project to deepen berth 103 is part of the lease agreement for the area.
CDC was chosen to be responsible for the execution of the project, whereas the lessee became responsible for funding it.
A Joint Budget Committee will analyze the project before it can be voted in the Plenary of the National Congress.
