Brazilian exports of poultry genetic material reached US$ 94.6 million between January and July, according to data collected by the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA).
The figure exceeds by 14.4% the results seen in the same period of 2021, US$ 82.6 million. In July alone, shipments of 1-day-old chicks and hatching eggs reached US$ 14 million, a result 17.5% higher than in the seventh month of 2021, with US$ 11.9 million.
In terms of volume, international sales of poultry genetics increased by 0.4% in 2022, with 8,398 thousand tonnes in the first seven months of this year, vis-a-vis 8,365 thousand tonnes in 2021. However, in July alone, there was a retraction of 20.2 % since the volume exported was 1,123 thousand tonnes in 2022 and 1,408 thousand tonnes last year.
Among the main export destinations, Mexico leads shipments with US$ 16.5 million (+102.7%), followed by Peru with US$ 11.2 million (+3.1%), and Senegal with US$ 10.5 million (-8.6%).
“We are witnessing a transition in international poultry genetics sales, with rising numbers in the Americas. In this context, Brazil has increased its worldwide participation in the poultry genetics sector, reinforcing its role as an export platform in the industry,” says Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
