Bull Semen lands on Argentina’s Import Blacklist
Aug, 29, 2022 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202235
The shortage of dollars in Argentina made its government make unusual decisions. For example, from now on, hammers, whisky, and bull semen will be under more strict import control. The “import blacklist” designed by the Argentine Federal Revenue (AFIP), the General Directorate of Customs, and the Secretariat of Commerce dictates which products can be granted an automatic import license or not.
Currently, Argentina has two types of import licensing: automatic and non-automatic, according to Resolution number 523/2017. In response to the ban, the Argentine Bovine Genetics Forum, formed by different breeders associations, issued a note listing the impacts of decreased imports on the countryside.
Bull semen has been on the controlled list since the Ministry of Commerce issued the import suspension resolution. The scarcity of dollars in Argentina makes having access to primary inputs such as fertilizers a challenging job. “The exchange of genetics is a fundamental tool to improve productivity throughout the meat and dairy industry chain,” emphasized the publication.
