In a note released to the public, the president of Cecafé Günter Häusler attributed the result to “sound price levels practiced in internal and external markets, as well as the favorable exchange rate.” According to Cecafé, the average price paid for the Brazilian coffee shipped between January and the end of August was US$ 233.58 per bag, up 70.4% from US$ 137.11/bag in the same time in 2021.
From January through August (+4.5%), the United States was the top destination for Brazilian coffee, accounting for 5.283 million bags received, or 20.9% of total exports. In second comes Germany, with 17.9% – 4.533 million bags imported (-1.9%) in eight months – and Belgium, with 2.110 million bags purchased (+14.2% of total).
Arabica coffee is the most exported variety, with 21.707 million bags shipped abroad, or 85.9% of the total. Soluble coffee shipments reached 2.505 million bags, accounting for 9.9% of the total. The canephora variety (robusta + conilon) was the third most exported coffee product, with exports of 1.033 million bags (4.1%). Finally, Brazil shipped 30,268 bags (0.1%) of roasted and ground products.
According to Cecafé, differentiated coffees with better quality or some sort of certificate of sustainable practices contributed to 18% of total Brazilian coffee exports between January and August 2022. There were 4.540 million bags exported, a 3.2% increase.
“The average price of differentiated products was US$ 284.54 per bag, generating a coffee export revenue of US$ 1.292 billion in the eight months, corresponding to 21.9% of total shipments and is 64.3% greater than that recorded in the same prior interval,” Cecafé stated.
