Brazil receives 1st ever cargo of Egyptian grapes
Sep, 20, 2022 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202237
Last week, the first shipment of grapes from Egypt arrived in Brazil, according to transport company Tridge. The small load, weighing 28 tonnes, was purchased by a large wholesaler in the state of São Paulo.
Brazilian grape imports have been falling in recent years as a result of the increase in national production, especially in the first half, which increased the country’s self-sufficiency.
This year, however, imports reversed the trend: according to governmental data, international purchases of grapes rose 41% from January to August 2022 compared to the same period last year – due to climate problems faced by winegrowers in the São Francisco Valley in the year’s first half.
