Rio de Janeiro port authority launches railway optimization system

Sisfer, a system developed by the Rio de Janeiro port authority CDRJ to aid in the monitoring and control of railway operations, went into operation in the Port of Rio de Janeiro on Monday, October 10. The port authority put nearly BRL 90,000 into the program.
The innovative apparatus aims to bring the procedures required for scheduling and executing entries and exists o railway compositions to the digital sphere, boosting operation dynamics with a direct impact on the logistical efficiency of ports. CDRJ also plans to implement the system at the Port of Itaguaí later this year.
With the system’s implementation, all stages of railway operations will be standardized and optimized; the impact of railway maneuvers on other modes of transportation and port operations will be reduced, and favorable conditions for increased rail traffic will be established. The system will also be able to integrate with leased terminals, port and rail operators, and others.
According to the Structuring and Construction of Solutions manager, Eduardo Moreira, the ‘feedback’ received from representatives of the leasing companies and port operators was very positive. Everyone considered the system a great advance, especially in the agility and transparency of the process.
Before the implementation of Sisfer, all processes related to railway operations were done manually, with information exchange via e-mail and telephone mostly. This scenario hampered communication between the ‘stakeholders’ that operated or used the train lines connected to the Port of Rio de Janeiro, sometimes generating losses to operational efficiency.
The Information Technology superintendent of Docas do Rio, Carlos Cerveira, highlighted that the development of Sisfer is part of a Digital Transformation Plan (PTD) to be applied throughout the triennium 2022-2024. PTD’s goal is to improve the use of existing technologies in providing services offered by the organization to internal and external customers. According to a statement, the company hopes to introduce more practical, quick, and effective solutions, both in routine matters and more complex needs, by utilizing technological solutions.
