Ships return to Itajaí and Navegantes ports after solution of Ituporanga dams problems

The access channels to the ports of Itajaí and Navegantes, on the northern coast of Santa Catarina, resumed receiving ship maneuvers at 9 am on October 18. The remained canals remained impossible to cross until authorities controlled the dams at Ituporange and Taió.
The river mouth that gives access to the Itajaí port terminal had been closed since Monday (17) morning. Until the morning of the following day, five ships were anchored at sea, waiting to enter the ports; three of them were bound for Navegantes. Finally, at 9 am, the entry of the vessels was authorized.
In Ituporanga, three gates were opened, but the volume of water only affected the pilotage of ships due to the speed with which the released water reached the state’s northern coast, without posing dangers to the city or population in Itajaí and Navegantes.
Due to the partial opening of the Taió and Ituporanga dams, the pilotage of the vessels had been suspended since Monday morning when the tide reached its predicted peak of 0.93 cm, and no maneuvers were anticipated during the day.
