Brazil: fish exports revenue up 49% YTD

The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) recently issued a new report on fish exports from Brazil, which saw a 49% increase in revenue from January to September 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.

In the 3rd quarter, revenue dropped by 17%. According to Empraba’s bulletin, the downward movement can be explained by the lower supply of tilapia fillets in the domestic market, reducing the availability of foreign sales. Frozen fillets remain the most exported product, despite a 9% drop from the previous year.

Disbursing nearly USD 3.8 million, the United States remained the leading destination for Brazilian fish exports in the 3rd quarter of the year. The North American country bought 83% of all fish exports. Taiwan and Japan occupied, respectively, the second and third positions in this ranking.

Paraná retained its position as the leading tilapia exporting state, accounting for 61% of total exports. Bahia, which surpassed Mato Grosso do Sul,  ranked second with 14% of tilapia exports for the first time.
