Melon: Brazil exports grow over 60% in October

As expected, Brazilian melon exports rose in October. According to the country’s Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex), the volume shipped last month reached 35 thousand tonnes, a 63% increase over September but a 23% decrease over October 2021.

According to agents consulted by the Hortifruti publication by Cepea, the increase from one month to the next was expected as the harvest is advancing in important producing states like Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará. However, the lower yield quality compared to last year is explained by logistics problems, such as high sea freight – which limits the exporter’s profitability – the need for more containers, and the poor quality of port services.

2022/23 crop partial – Brazilian melon exports plunged from August to October. The volume shipped was 58 thousand tonnes, down 24% compared to last year’s period. As a result, revenue was US$ 44 million (FOB), a decrease of 16% in the same comparison.
