Multimodal operator Brado celebrates 100,000 container throughput

The multimodal logistics operator Brado set a historical record with a throughput of around 100,000 containers in 2022, considering the domestic market, exports, and imports, said the company.

The figure, set on December 8, represents a 26% increase over the period from January 1 to December 8, 2021.

The company’s projection, a white flag operator (it can operate on any railway network), is to end the year with around 110,000 containers moved.

The domestic market, whose company range comprises the stretch between Sumaré and Rondonópolis, had the highest percentage growth in handling, at 35%.

More than 30,000 containers were handled on this stretch in the period, with emphasis on animal nutrition goods (+119%), consumer goods (+49%), agrochemicals (+26%), and special corn (for human consumption, used in food industries) (+26%).

“The numbers confirm the success of our national market growth strategy,” writes Brado CEO Marcelo Saraiva in a note. “It is interesting to note that the two flows grew, with agrochemicals, consumer goods, and animal nutrition products leaving Sao Paulo for Mato Grosso and special corn traveling in the opposite direction.”

In terms of exports, paper and pulp cargo loads leaving Ortigueira to the Port of Paranaguá, both in Parana state, drove the results up, adding an average of 1,300 containers a month to the company’s throughput. The operation, which began in September 2021, has already reached its full potential, projected for 2022, according to Brado. Cotton exports also grew.

The flow of cotton from Rondonópolis, Mato Grosso state, to the Port of Santos increased by more than 60% compared to the same period in 2021, according to Brado.

Regarding imports, agricultural defensives stood out, with a 65% increase from January to December 8 last year. As a result, the product’s domestic market movement increased by 32% on the same comparison basis.

Brado combines the transport of containers by rail over long distances and by road over short distances. Its structure comprises 19 locomotives, more than 4,900 containers, and 2,900 wagons, in addition to equipment, warehouses, and terminals, complemented by partnerships in the country’s main consumption centers.
