The export of bovine semen from Brazil reached the highest volume in history from January to September, according to a study by the Brazilian Association of Artificial Insemination (Asbia) jointly with the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea).
In the period, 361,056 doses of semen suitable for beef cattle were sent to 11 countries, an increase of 11.8% compared to the same period in 2021, and 345,828 doses ideal for dairy cattle were shipped to 14 countries, totaling 706,884 doses, an increase of 4.4%.
Asbia assesses that Brazilian genetics “is increasingly recognized internationally.” In total, semen sales (to create beef and dairy cattle) reached 19,669,138 doses between January and September 2022, according to Asbia.
This result represents a decrease of 5.8% compared to the first nine months of last year (20,886,986 doses). Approximately 4,330 municipalities received the products in the period – equivalent to 77.7% of Brazilian cities.
