In the fourth position, after Japan, came Saudi Arabia, another traditional buyer of Brazilian poultry. A total of 314,825 tonnes were shipped to the country from January to November, a slight 5.6% drop over the same period in 2021. According to Luis Rua, Market director of ABPA, the country is returning to an ascending trend in purchases from Brazil and could expand next year.
Qatar also stood out among the Arab countries, with a 35% growth in poultry purchases from Brazil year to date. “Of the fifteen main markets we exported to this year, five were Arab,” said Rua to ANBA at the press conference.
Halal poultry shipments totaled 1.821 million tonnes from January to November, a 4.8% increase compared to the first eleven months of 2021.
“The Arab markets account for a third of our exports, they are our most significant partners in exports, and we are the biggest halal exporter. We progressed and had a superb performance with the UAE market,” said the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin, to ANBA.
Santin pointed out Brazil remains free of avian influenza and has continued to take all precautions to prevent the disease from crossing its borders.
Total exports
From January to November, Brazil exported 4.4 million tonnes of poultry protein, up 5.6% compared to the first eleven months of 2021. Revenue totaled USD 8.97 billion, a 29.3% growth in the same comparison.
Projections for the end of 2022 estimate total shipments between 4.8 and 4.85 million tonnes, 5% up from 2021.
For 2023, forecasts are for exports between 5 and 5.2 million tons, up 8.5% compared to 2022.
Eggs
The UAE bought 48% of Brazilian eggs exported from January to November this year, totaling 4,356 tonnes, down 16.2%. Despite having reduced consumption, the Arab country continues to be the leading market for Brazilian eggs.
Qatar clinched the second position in the period, with 1,080 tonnes, a 185.7% expansion compared to the first 11 months of 2021. Oman came sixth, with 273 tons (-7.1%), and Saudi Arabia, ninth among the main destinations, with 135 tons (-16.5%).
Total exports of Brazilian eggs amounted to 9,043 tonnes from January to November, up 2.1% over 2021. Revenue tallied USD 21.12 million, with a 50.2% growth.
ABPA’s projection for 2022 is up to 10,000 tonnes of eggs could be shipped, a 12% drop compared to 2021. For 2023, the outlook is more optimistic; up to 11,000 tonnes could be shipped, a 10% expansion over the current year.
