China reduces soybean and corn imports, says customs

China imported 7.35 million tonnes of soybeans last November, down 14.2% from the same month in 2021, according to the Chinese customs authority (Gacc). Year-to-date, the Asian country imported 80.53 million tonnes of the oilseed.

As for oilseed derivatives, China purchased 60,000 tonnes of soy oil in November this year. From January to October 2022, imports of the product totaled 280 thousand tonnes.

Chinese corn imports reached a 740 thousand tonnes volume in October, a figure 5.8% lower than in November 2021. YTD, the country imported 19.75 million tonnes of cereal.

Increased purchases of wheat, cotton, and palm oil

Last month, China imported 1.01 million tonnes of wheat, a 35.4% increase over the previous year. The imports by the Asian country totaled 8.88 million tonnes this year.

China imported 180,000 tonnes of cotton last month, an increase of 85% compared to the same period in 2021. Imports of the natural fiber totaled 1.77 million tonnes between January and November this year.

China purchased 700 thousand tonnes of palm oil in October, up 61.6% year-on-year. In the year-to-date, imports of the commodity reached 2.97 million tonnes.

Dairy, sugar, and fertilizer data

China imported 260 thousand tonnes of dairy products in November, 15.9% less than in the same period the previous year. The country purchased 3.02 million tonnes of dairy products between January and November.

Chinese sugar imports totaled 730 thousand tonnes in November, an increase of 17% compared to the same month of the previous year. In the year, imports of the sweetener reached 4.75 million tonnes.

Chinese purchases of fertilizers amounted to 680,000 tonnes, down 25.7% compared to November last year. From January to November, China imported 8.26 million tonnes.
