Suape Port Complex launches 2035 Development Plan

The Industrial Port Complex of Suape launched the Suape 2035 Development Plan on December 29 with the goal of improving management within its limits. Among the most relevant upcoming changes is the reorganization of the space through a hierarchical road network and different parchments based on shared patterns of lots and blocks.
The new plan, in addition to defining two different activity-based territories – the Industrial Zone (ZI) and the Central Services Zone (ZCS) – presents solutions to housing issues. Furthermore, considering the long-standing presence of resident families, the document delimits special-purpose sectors, envisioning the integration of this population segment in urban settings or rural areas where environmentally sustainable family farming can be practiced.
A subdivision was proposed for the Ecological Preservation Zone (ZPEC) to increase the preserved area. In addition, implementing agroforestry systems to house a portion of the complex’s rural population is also planned as a form of sustainable conservation occupation. Regarding cultural heritage, the proposals focused on the challenges and potential for the sustainability of archaeological artifacts.
According to Suape’s CEO, Francisco Martins, some of the current plan’s precepts needed to be reassessed without jeopardizing the integrity of the essential foundations expressed in the project’s objectives.
“We were able to propose significant change and overcome the complexity of the challenges encountered while respecting works that had already been done,” he said. “The new Development Plan is an instrument designed to strengthen the long-term planning of this vital asset for Pernambuco, the Port of Suape,” he added.
PARTICIPATORY WORKSHOPS
The signing of the service order for the start of multidisciplinary studies in February 2022 marked the beginning of the revising and updating works of the Development Plan – Suape 2035.
The service, commanded by the consortium formed by the companies TPF and Ceplan that won the tender, had a 15-month execution period and a total project investment of R$ 6.8 million.
After the preliminary studies, participatory workshops took place, which was completed four months ahead of schedule. There were three moments with the participation of the main strategic agents active in the territory (stakeholders).
The first stage was marked by a breakdown of the current situation into ten thematic axes. On the second occasion, the consortium presented the scenarios, future vision, and conceptual proposal for the new zoning and development plan. In the third and final meeting, the developed and consolidated proposals for the complex’s future were discussed with public representatives.
