The January movement in the ports of Paraná set a new record for the month. There were 4,208,706 tons of cargo loaded and unloaded at the Ports of Paranaguá and Antonina. The volume is 1% higher than the 4,157,538 tons in the same period in 2022.
In exports, the highlights were corn, up 189% in January this year compared to January last year, bran (soybean and corn, up 17%), sugar (15%), soy oil and petroleum products (in January 2022 there was no shipment of these products).
Please find below the volume of corn exports through the Port of Paranagua from Jan 2019 and Dec 2022, according to DataLiner data.

In imports, wheat (93%), barley/malt (26%), salt (100%), methanol (67%), vegetable oils and petroleum derivatives led the rises – the latter did not land in Paraná last year.
“The increase recorded among bulk was what most contributed to the new high”, informs the director-president of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia. “Solid bulk alone represents almost 60% of everything that was handled in the month. The segment moved 2,475,456 tons, 2% more than last year”, he adds.
Among liquid bulk, the increase was 12% in the comparison between January 2022 and 2023. This year, there were 722,073 tons. Last year, 644,939.
In the general cargo segment, which represents the loads that are shipped per unit, 1,011,177 tons were handled. The volume is 7% lower than the 1,088,747 tons registered in January 2022. The drop was mainly impacted by the reduction in the volumes of sugar in sacks and cellulose, in the export sense.
Vehicle movements are up by 395%. This year, 8,095 units were loaded and unloaded through the Port of Paranaguá, compared to 1,634 units in the first month of last year. Of the total for 2023, 6,975 vehicles were exported and 1,120 imported.
Containers, on the other hand, did not move differently from last year. There were 88,038 TEUs handled – 47,561 TEUs for export and another 40,477 TEUs for import.
EXPORTS FROM PARANÁ – Exports from Paraná grew 6.1% in January 2023, according to a survey by the Paraná Institute of Economic and Social Development (Ipardes), based on data from the federal government. US$ 1,381,864,547 were exported in January this year, against US$ 1,302,979,509 in the same period last year.
