Biopalma pays R$128m towards restoration of Moju River bridge

Palm oil producer Biopalma, a subsidiary of Vale, has reached an agreement with the Pará State government to contribute R$128m towards the restoration of a Bridge on the Moju River. A section of bridge collapsed earlier this month after a boat, carrying Biopalma cargo, crashed into a large bridge pillar. The bridge is part of the Alça Viária complex, a series of highways (74km in total) and bridges (4.5km) in the region.
According to Brazilian newspaper Valor, the agreement did not involve an admission of guilt by Biopalma. The palm oil producer must deposit the value within 15 days of approval made by the state’s Attorney General.
