The engine system of the ship Américo Vespúcio malfunctioned when leaving the Port of Santos on the evening of March 30. The incident occurred around 9:30 pm.
The vessel stayed anchored near the beach of Pouca Farinha, in the region of Santa Cruz dos Navegantes. At the same time that there was a strong windstorm in Santos, but according to the Santos Port Authority (SPA), the two events were unrelated.
The ship was tugged to the terminal it had just left. No one was injured no environmental damage was incurred.
According to the SPA, the problem was caused by a low control air pressure caused by a leak in the system.
After the incident, the vessel was towed with the help of the pilots and docked again at the Santos Brasil container terminal, where it had left.
