May, 02, 2019 Posted by datamarnewsWeek 201919
As of May 1, the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Chile and Argentina has entered into force. At the beginning of this year, the Chilean Senate of Valparaiso approved the Free Trade Agreement with Argentina, known as Protocol 61, after almost a year of negotiating.
The new deal aims to deepen economic integration between the two countries in the areas of investment, services, public procurement, telecommunications and e-commerce. The FTA also addresses provisions on technical, sanitary, and phytosanitary standards, as well as other topics such as the environment, labor, gender equality, small and medium enterprises and competition policy.
Argentina is Chile’s sixth largest trading partner. In 2018, Chile’s trade with Argentina grew by 7.9% to US$4.201m, compared with 2017.
