Brazilian authorities uncover 22 kg of cocaine in frozen chicken container
May, 08, 2023 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202322
In a significant bust, agents of the Brazilian Federal Revenue (Receita Federal) confiscated a staggering 22 kg of cocaine at the Container Terminal located in the Port of Paranaguá, Paraná, on the morning of Friday, May 5.
The narcotics, cleverly concealed in a compartment adjacent to a container brimming with frozen chicken, were intended to be offloaded at the Port of Tangier in Morocco before being forwarded to Saudi Arabia.
A ‘rip-on/rip-off’ strategy, whereby smugglers insert contraband into cargo containers without the knowledge of the exporter, was employed by the drug traffickers. This has become an increasingly prevalent tactic in recent times.
This episode marked the eighth such operation in 2023. It brought the total amount of confiscated cocaine to a staggering 239.50 kg, reflecting the stern resolve of the Federal Revenue officials in combating the drug trade.
The authorities have shared pertinent details about the case with domestic law enforcement agencies and foreign customs authorities to enhance the global battle against drug trafficking.
The Federal Revenue is a critical cog in customs clearance, overseeing and monitoring shipments and vehicles arriving from or destined for other countries.
