Itajaí Port sends pulp shipment to the United States

On Tuesday, May 9, the general cargo carrier PANAMA left the Port of Itajaí to the United States, carrying around 15.890 thousand tonnes of pulp. The vessel had arrived at the maritime terminal three days earlier, on the 6th.

The vessel, berthed at APM Terminals (leased area), marks the fourth occurrence of an operation such as this.

In total, 208,106 thousand tonnes of pulp have been handled at the Santa Catarina-based port since 2022.

SC Portos oversaw the procedure. The vessel is owned by SAGA WELCO LTDA, its marine agency is Orion, and the cargo exporter is Eldorado Brasil Celulose S/A.

The Norwegian-flagged ship is 212.50 meters long and 32.26 meters wide.

The vessel departed from its origin port in Nueva Palmira, Uruguay, and will continue sailing toward the ports of Baltimore and Port of Arthur (USA) after leaving Itajaí.

Pulp is a type of cargo that can be handled in bales or coils. As they are highly fragile products, logistics in the pulp and paper sector require specific equipment and special care to protect the cargo and prevent it from getting wet or damaged.

The first pulp operation in the Port of Itajaí occurred in August 2019 with the SAGA FANTASY ship, containing 6,314 tonnes of pulp coils.
