Vila Velha will receive a R$ 550 million investment from Consórcio Navegantes Logística to implement bulk liquid fuel terminals at the harbor Cais do Atalaia.
At the meeting, the Executive Director of the Navegantes Consortium, Bismark Duarte, explained the details of the project to Mayor Arnaldinho Borgo and to several municipal secretaries and businessmen from Vila Velha. The consortium was the winner of the public tender to lease a greenfield area with approximately 74 thousand m² for 25 years, which will enable a significant increase in the port’s capacity to handle fuels.
Benefits
“Added to the current dynamic capacity of the other terminals of the Vila Velha port complex – which is 2.55 million tonnes/year – the implementation of 16 new vertical tanks for fuel storage will raise this capacity to 4.3 million tons/year. That is, an increase of 1.76 million tonnes/year,” informed Director Bismark Duarte.
According to him, the activities planned for this terminal, whose draft is 12.5 meters deep, will be: loading and unloading of ships and tanker trucks; reception and storage of products; analysis and weighing of products; and cleaning of bulk liquid tanks.
For Mayor Arnaldinho Borgo, the installation of the Navegantes Consortium in Vila Velha represents an important advance not only for the city but also for Espírito Santo: “This concession contract reduces the risk of fuel shortage in the State, as it happened in 2015, 2019, and 2022. In addition, the project – which should generate 400 direct and indirect jobs during the construction phase – will allow the Vila Velha port to overcome the frequent difficulties of berthing fuel vessels at Tubarão Port by Vale, which is located on the open sea, where the priority is the exportation of iron ore in large bulk carriers,” he said.
