Furthermore, the bidding process is expected to take place later this year. This information was shared with the delegation from Santa Catarina, which met with the National Secretary of Ports and Aquatic Transport, Fabrizio Pierdomenico, last week.
According to the Ministry of Ports and Airports, the bidding process will follow a public consultation and scrutiny by the Federal Audit Court (TCU) and the National Agency for Waterway Transport (Antaq).

Please note that due to the operational imbroglio regarding the port’s administration rights, the container movement was brought to low levels this year.

Port shall remain publicly-owned
Furthermore, the Ministry emphasized the importance of adapting the auction model for the Port of Itajaí to maintain the public port authority. This means the port authority will continue to have strategic responsibilities that ask for government involvement while forming partnerships with private entities to operate the cargo terminal and port access channel. The goal is to balance public and private interests in the port’s operations and development. This approach aims to leverage the expertise and resources of both sectors for the benefit of the port and its stakeholders.
The pass-on of the administration, which is expected to be signed in the coming weeks, will transfer port authority to the municipality for another 25 years.
