The Brazilian Federal Revenue conducted an operation on Tuesday (4) at the Port of Santos, resulting in the seizure of multiple tablets of cocaine. During routine customs surveillance and enforcement, agents discovered the drugs in a few containers within the port terminal yard.
Some containers were randomly chosen for inspection, and one of them contained sports bags concealed amidst a load of cardboard paper rolls intended for food packaging. Upon examination, the bags were found to contain a total of 131 kg of cocaine tablets. Although the container was initially bound for Europe, it was scheduled to transfer to South Africa.
Based on the characteristics identified in the operation, the criminals are likely to have employed a technique known as the “Rip-Off modality,” which involves concealing drugs within a legitimate shipment without the knowledge of exporters and importers. Using such techniques complicates customs risk management, as it requires specialized personnel skilled in image analysis and knowledgeable in controlling the movement of export containers.
Upon confirming the presence of drugs, the Federal Police were summoned to carry out the necessary judicial procedures on behalf of the Union and to conduct an investigation at the scene of the incident. This action will support the subsequent police inquiry.
