Mercosur’s response to the demands of the European Union (EU) concerning the trade agreement between the two blocs should be ready in a few weeks. The text, already written by the Brazilian Chief of Staff Office, can be sent to Europe at any moment as soon as the other Mercosur countries analyze it.
The topic should also be addressed by President Lula during the summit between European countries and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), which will take place in Brussels.
A similar meeting with the 60 countries that make up the two blocs has not taken place since 2015. Among the topic most likely to be discussed is the reform of the international financial framework – defended by Brazil – and the digital and sustainable transition of the economy.
According to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lula will hold bilateral meetings with King Felipe of Belgium, the Chancellor of Austria, Karl Nehammer, and the Swedish Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson. There is also an expectation of a meeting with the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen.
The Brazilian president was also invited to a meeting with progressive leaders from several countries, including Portugal, Spain, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Germany, and Denmark.
