Brazilian poultry genetics exports grow 95% in the first half of 2023

The Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) released data showing that poultry genetics exports (including day-old chicks and fertile eggs) totaled 14,156 thousand tonnes between January and June 2023, a figure that exceeds 95% of the total shipped in the first six months of 2022, with 7,274 thousand tonnes.

The revenue from poultry genetics exports totaled $129.425 million in the first half, up 61% from the same period last year.

In June, there was an increase of 44.7% in the sector’s shipments, with 1,579 thousand tonnes in the sixth month of 2023, compared to 1,091 thousand tonnes in 2022. Export revenue in the month grew 10.9%, with $16,372 million last month, compared to $14,764 million in June 2022.

Mexico is the largest importer of Brazilian poultry genetics, with 8,912 thousand tons exported in the first half of 2023, a 260% increase over the same period in 2022. Senegal is the second largest importer, with 1,572 thousand tons exported, followed by Paraguay (1,406 thousand tons) and Peru (1,352 thousand tons).

“There has been a change in demand for Brazilian poultry genetics products, which have now become more important in Latin American countries. The strong increase is proof of the trust of importers in the quality and biosecurity of Brazilian poultry production,” said Ricardo Santin, president of the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA).
