The Minister of Ports and Airports, Márcio França, said during his speech at the inauguration of the new terminal of Eldorado Brasil Celulose, this Monday (31), that work on the Santos-Guarujá tunnel will begin in 2024, even amidst the change project modeling, which will be made possible through a public-private partnership (PPP).

“Starting next year, we are going to start, at President Lula’s request, the work on the submerged tunnel that will connect the two banks”.

Asked about the tunnel, the president of the Port Authority of Santos (APS), Anderson Pomini, said that the manager of the port of Santos is already working with the PPP format.

“We have already forwarded a timeline, contemplating the public-private partnership. If it’s up to us, we’ll start the works next year. It is clear that the PPP requires a formal process different from the one we advocated, which was a direct public procurement, but we are running with the deadlines, we have activated all the bodies that will be consulted on the matter so that we can start the works at the end next year or early next year.

If the Federal Government decides that the metropolitan dry connection works will be carried out through PPP, the project will have to be submitted to the evaluation and approval of the Federal Audit Court (TCU) and the National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq).
