Brazilian orange juice exports fall 14% in the 2018/19 season

According to CitrusBR – the National Association of Citrus Juice Exporters – Brazil’s exports of orange juice (FCOJ equivalent to 66 brix) dropped by 14% to 806,957 tons in the first ten months of the 2018/2019 harvest from July 2018 to April 2019. The country shipped 941,419 tons in the previous season, Citrus BR said. The volume of exports generated US$1.499bn in revenues in the same period, a fall of 13% against the last season at US$1.717bn.

The European Union (EU), Brazil’s main market, imported 531,016 tons between July 2018 and April 2019, down 5% year-on-year. Revenue earned from the bloc fell by 3% to US$ 989.461m between July 2018 and April 2019, year-on-year.
Brazil’s orange juice exports to its second largest market, the US, fell by 32% to 173,678 tons year-on-year, while export revenues dropped to US$305.414m in the period, a 33% fall year-on-year.
Lastly, Japan imported 11% less volume of orange juice at 36,083 tons in the first ten months of the 2018/19 season, compared to the same period last year. Brazil earned US$7.829m from exporting to the Asian country in the period, down 10% year-on-year.
