The Port of São Francisco do Sul is continuously reducing the loading time of bulk carriers. For the third time this year, a new record has been broken: this time, 68,000 tonnes of corn were loaded in 23 hours and 49 minutes.
The cargo, bound for China on the vessel Geneva Star, was loaded this week, using each ship loader, the equipment used to load corn and soybeans, at an average of 1,427 tonnes per hour. The previous record, set in April, was 67,000 tonnes loaded in 26 hours.
The port authority cleared the Singapore-flagged vessel on Wednesday, the 23rd, to continue its journey to Asia.
The new productivity record in the Export Corridor was achieved thanks to the efficiency of the shiploaders. The machinery has received investments and constant maintenance, greatly enhancing its performance.
“We achieved an extremely high-efficiency rate of 95% in both shiploaders, ensuring they operated at their maximum capacity throughout the process,” explained Guilherme Medeiros, Infrastructure Manager at the Port.
“The increase in efficiency and improvements in port infrastructure are the major challenges faced by our port managers. Congratulations to São Francisco do Sul on this significant achievement,” stated Beto Martins, Secretary of Ports, Airports, and Railways.
