The Board of Directors of the Santos Port Authority (APS) met with independent truck drivers from Sindicam and CooperSantos on Wednesday evening (August 30th) at the port authority’s headquarters on Avenida Rodrigues Alves. During the meeting, it informed the trucking community that the access road renovation works to Alemoa will conclude on Tuesday (September 5th), with the simultaneous operation of two lanes.
Anderson Pomini, President of APS, further explained to the truckers that he has given a favorable opinion on renewing operations for BTP and extending the activities of Ecoporto. The President advocated that the STS 10 should be structured in such a way as to allow the presence of both container terminals, including Concais, to address the demands of the independent truckers. Earlier in the day, these truckers staged a demonstration requesting an increase in cargo availability for their work.
The truckers had concerns regarding news of a potential change in leadership in the Ministry of Ports and Airports, and they sought assurances that BTP and Ecoporto would continue to exist.
President Pomini assured the professionals that the final decision rests with the Federal Audit Court (TCU), where the process is currently under review. “The TCU is an independent body, and I believe a decision is imminent,” stated the President.
The Santos Port Authority also announced that an internal meeting will be convened in the coming days to define the format of STS 10 in a way that encompasses all terminal activities, even foreseeing the expansion of container areas in the upcoming tender.
“We understand the concerns of the truckers and will respect the PDZ,” said the President of APS when the truckers highlighted that they previously handled 30,000 containers and now handle around 9,000 per month.
