The Port of Itaqui has taken a significant step toward modernizing its pulp handling logistics by introducing a state-of-the-art automatic spreader. This high-tech equipment, capable of handling up to 32 tonnes, promises to enhance both safety and productivity in port operations. The equipment was officially delivered to the port on Monday, September 4th, at Berth 102 of the Port of Itaqui.

The investment, totaling R$ 9 million, is being made by Suzano, a global leader in the production of bioproducts derived from eucalyptus crops. This innovation represents a significant milestone in addressing the challenges faced by the cellulose industry and port logistics, moving toward operational excellence.

“This is a revolutionary piece of equipment driven by cutting-edge technology. We express our unequivocal confidence in the Port of Itaqui, reaffirming our solemn commitment to the development of the State of Maranhão. It is with immense pride that we deliver this equipment, which not only promises operational excellence but, above all, prioritizes the care and safety of the people involved in the complex port operation at the Port of Itaqui,” stated Rakel Murad, Manager of Institutional Relations at Suzano.

It is important to note that Itaqui will be only the second port globally to adopt this revolutionary technology, with the first already in operation at Portocel in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, through a partnership between Suzano and Cenibra. This underscores Suzano’s ongoing commitment to operational excellence and sustainability.

The automatic spreader stands out for its capacity to handle pulp cargoes with greater autonomy, eliminating the risks dockworkers face. In addition to safety benefits, this equipment has the potential to significantly reduce the time required for cellulose handling, optimizing logistical flow and enhancing overall port operation efficiency.
