Brazilian rice industry declares August best month of 2023 so far

Brazilian paddy rice exports achieved their best result of the year in August. Last month, the country shipped 296,500 tonnes, a 20.3% increase compared to the 246,400 tonnes sent to the international market in the same month of 2022, as reported by the Brazilian Rice Industry Association (Abiarroz).

According to the data released by the association, based on the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services (MDIC) figures, the revenue from August exports amounted to $100.9 million, a 30% rise compared to the $77.6 million earned in the same month last year.

Processed Rice

On the other hand, shipments of processed rice in August reached 130,900 tonnes, equivalent to $40.1 million. This marked a 26% increase in volume and a 33.8% rise in revenue. These exports accounted for 44.17% of the total exports of processed rice, which has higher value-added, in the eighth month of 2023.

The primary destinations for processed rice in August were the United States, Gambia, Spain, the Netherlands (Holland), Peru, Venezuela, Cuba, Guatemala, Saudi Arabia, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Year-to-Date

From January to August, Brazil exported 1.3 million tonnes of rice (paddy rice), totaling $451.5 million. Exports of processed rice, on the other hand, reached 607,000 tonnes, equivalent to $190.6 million.

Imports

In August, paddy rice imports reached 165,300 tonnes, equivalent to $62.5 million. Year-to-date, Brazil imported 1 million tonnes, with a disbursement of $349.3 million.
