Brazil ups toy and games imports significantly

In the landscape of Brazilian foreign trade, imports of toys and games have achieved impressive numbers until September of this year, totaling a figure of $449 million, equivalent to R$2.3 billion. This value represented a remarkable increase of 29% compared to the same period in 2022, as pointed out in research conducted by Vixtra, a fintech specializing in foreign trade, based on data provided by the Secretariat of Foreign Trade and information from Forbes.
Imports
The standout feature of this exponential growth in imports is the category of video games, which witnessed an impressive increase of 72%, accounting for 53% of the total imports of toys and games in the period analyzed. According to Leonardo Baltieri, co-CEO of Vixtra, part of this increase can be attributed to Children’s Day, a date that boosts the commerce of this segment.
The importation of games and toys is not a simple acquisition but rather a strategy to offer more competitive prices. Due to the time required for imports to reach inventories, traders need careful planning with orders placed in advance. This planning becomes an essential tool to meet the growing demand of the gaming audience and offer attractive prices.
The gaming audience, known for its loyalty and enthusiasm, plays a significant role in the increase of imports of games and toys. Additionally, the reduction of taxes on games in 2022 contributed to this notable growth.
China
China is the primary source of these products, accounting for 86% of the imports recorded in the first nine months of 2023. This represented an increase of $98 million, which corresponds to over 99% of the total increase of $102 million in the period under review. With competitive production costs and a robust leisure industry, China’s leadership in exports of these products is a natural consequence.
