CMA CGM applies low water surcharge in Brazilian port

French ocean carrier CMA CGM has revised the low water surcharge (LWS) in Manaus, Brazil, as the navigability conditions on the Amazon River are still showing a great reduction in the water level along its bed due to the dry season.
“This draft restriction directly affects the cargo capacity with which ships can transit the river, limiting shipments and landings at the port of Manaus,” said CMA CGM in an announcement.
Therefore, the shipping company has implemented a surcharge of US$2,100 per TEU for all types of cargo at the port of Manaus in Brazil, effective from 22 October.
