Poultry genetics exports, including hatching eggs and day-old chicks, reached 1,828 thousand tonnes in September, reported the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). This figure represents a 52.9% increase compared to the same period last year when the total was 1,196 thousand tons.
The sector saw a 29.3% growth in revenue, earning $17.8 million in the ninth month of 2023, compared to $13.7 million in 2022.
In the year to date (January to September), the sector’s sales have accumulated a 75.5% increase, with 19.1 thousand tons exported in 2023, as opposed to 10.8 thousand tons in 2022. Consequently, the total revenue for this year has reached $179.9 million in 2023, marking a 45.1% increase compared to the same period in 2022, which recorded $124 million.
“The quality of poultry genetics and the country’s overall health status has allowed Brazil to strengthen its role as a safe haven for nations seeking top-quality genetics, including those facing challenges with Avian Influenza,” said ABPA President Ricardo Santin.
As the biggest importer of Brazilian poultry genetics, sales to Mexico generated $58.6 million between January and September this year, 128% higher than last year. Other highlights included Paraguay, with $14.9 million (+17%), Peru with $23.5 million (+72%), and Venezuela with $6.5 million (+58%).
“The Americas are currently the main destination for the sector’s shipments, and we expect to finish 2023 with positive revenue and export volume results,” emphasized Director of Markets, Luis Rua.
