Wilson Sons celebrates the seventh anniversary of Tecon Santa Clara, an inland container terminal located in Triunfo, Rio Grande do Sul. In September, the terminal achieved a record throughput of 5,073 TEUs, marking its best performance since it began operations in October 2016. This milestone was achieved through a partnership between Wilson Sons and Braskem, which reactivated Pier IV at the terminal and resumed cargo transport along the Jacuí River between Triunfo and the Port of Rio Grande.
Before this achievement, the highest throughput was recorded in March of this year when Tecon Santa Clara reached 4,765 TEUs (2,539 containers), 6.4% less than the new record. Furthermore, the terminal has transported 283,780 TEUs over its seven years of operation.
Strategically located in the Petrochemical Hub of Triunfo, Tecon Santa Clara provides multimodal cargo transport services for imports, exports, and coastal shipping. It operates with two barges and offers four weekly calls at the Tecon Rio Grande, facilitating cargo transport from Rio Grande to the world.
With approximately 170 clients, the terminal handles various goods, including resins, frozen chicken, wood, rubber, tobacco, scrap, household goods, furniture, and plastics. These products have their origins or destinations in cities such as Farroupilha, Carlos Barbosa, Garibaldi, Caxias do Sul, Veranópolis, Cruz Alta, Lajeado, Taquari, and Serafina Corrêa.
In 2022, Wilson Sons increased its operational capacity by 33% with the addition of the Guaíba barge, which has a capacity of 160 TEUs, replacing the older 120 TEU barge. Besides creating more commercial opportunities for the local market, the expansion of inland navigation is a crucial element in the development of more sustainable logistics projects, as the use of this mode of transport contributes to a reduction in CO2 emissions.
