Port of Pecém records a 20% increase in October Throughput

The Port of Pecém received an additional volume of over 6,000 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) in October, representing a 20% increase in the expected monthly throughput. This trend is likely to continue in November.
In addition to the surge in fruit shipments and the imports of solar panels, food, and electronics for the Black Friday season, the Port of Pecém has been providing support for cargo that is unable to reach Manaus due to drought in the region, which has led to adjustments in shipping routes.
“Since the Port of Pecém serves as the primary transshipment hub for containerized cargo bound for Manaus in the Northeast, it has become the destination for shipments that are unable to reach there. We are making efforts to handle and store the cargo destined for the Port of Manaus to meet the needs of our main shipping companies due to the drought, which is hindering vessel navigation,” emphasized Roberto de Castro, the Director of Operations at the Pecém Complex.
He further explained that most of this cargo, primarily consisting of equipment and materials from the industries in the Manaus Free Trade Zone, will be stored in the recently expanded yard at the Port of Pecém during November and December. This temporary storage will continue until the river regains normal water levels, allowing vessel navigation.
