Maersk expands operations in Brazil with new call in Rio de Janeiro

A.P. Moller-Maersk announced some changes to one of the main routes connecting Europe to the East Coast of South America, adding a new call at the Brazilian port Rio Brasil Terminal in Rio de Janeiro to its “Bossa Nova” service.

“Bossa Nova” is a regular service offered by Maersk, dedicated to serving customers seeking secure and efficient solutions for containerized cargo transport between the European and Brazilian markets, contributing to the growth of Brazilian foreign trade. The new call reinforces the availability of ocean products on the East Coast of South America and expands Maersk’s offerings in Brazil.

The privileged location of Rio de Janeiro positions the city as a crucial gateway to South America, and the extra call reinforces direct access to a growing consumer base in Brazil and neighboring countries. The service, which now has two calls at ports in Rio de Janeiro, one departing from the Port of Itaguai (Sepetiba) and one arriving at the Rio Brasil Terminal (ICTSI Rio), opens up new paths for companies looking to explore the vast potential of the South American market.

The new calls also highlight the port infrastructure of the region, as the facilities of Rio Brasil Terminal (ICTSI Rio) and Port of Itaguai (Sepetiba) enable the efficient handling of various types of cargo, ensuring a continuous flow of goods.

With the change, the port rotation of the “Bossa Nova” service will be Algeciras (Spain) – Tanger Med (Morocco) – Salvador (Brazil) – Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), with calls at the Port of Itaguai (Sepetiba) and Rio Brasil Terminal – Santos (Brazil) – Itapoá (Brazil) – Paranaguá (Brazil) – Santos – Sepetiba (Brazil) – Tanger Med – Algeciras.

The container ship Maersk Lota, with a capacity of 8,850 TEU, completed its first updated port rotation, arriving at the Rio Brasil Terminal (ICTSI Rio) on October 19.
