Minister Unveils Liquid Bulk Pier and Announces Investments in Port of Santos

Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, inaugurated the Ageo São Paulo pier on Thursday (23). The event, on Barnabé Island, on the left bank of the Port of Santos, is a milestone as it has been 35 years since a public quay for the liquid bulk sector has been offered in the Santos port complex. Starting new operations at the dock will expedite the reception of liquid bulk in Santos, reducing waiting times.

Minister Silvio Costa Filho also authorized Ageo to commence investments to implement the new tank farm in its terminal.

Costa Filho also emphasized that the Santos-Guarujá tunnel will be announced in December, “a project that, after a hundred years, will finally come off the drawing board.” He also stated that investments will be made in dredging to reach 17 meters in the navigation channel of the Port of Santos.

Participants had the opportunity to explore the Stena Proman ship, powered by methanol, considered a “green ship” for zero carbon emissions. The event featured Executive Secretary of Ports, Mariana Pescatori; Ageo CEO, Matheus Ruiz Santiago; representatives from the National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq), São Paulo Environmental Company (Cetesb), Brazilian Association of Liquid Terminals (ABTL), and Pilotage, among other institutions.

New Ageo Pier

The new Ageo Terminals pier invested R$ 187 million in infrastructure for LR1-class ships, increasing the berthing capacity for liquid bulk ships on Barnabé Island in the Port of Santos by 25%.

With the new pier, the Port of Santos strengthens its position in international trade by reducing waiting times due to a lack of specialized berths, reaching levels of liquid bulk berthing equivalent to the performance of ports in Europe and America.
