New Operational Efficiency Record Set by Tecon Salvador Container Terminal

The container terminal at the Port of Salvador, Tecon Salvador, achieved a new record of operational efficiency by handling 118.5 containers per hour during the loading and unloading of the Bartolomeu Dias 344N ship this month. In total, 746 containers were processed in 6 hours and 40 minutes. The previous milestone was set in January this year, with 110 movements per hour (mph) and 517 containers in 4 hours and 55 minutes.
As a business unit of Wilson Sons, which recently invested in expanding the main quay and enlarging the back area for cargo reception, the Bahian terminal has also increased its monthly productivity following this expansion. This expansion included new equipment, as Tecon Salvador‘s Executive Director, Demir Lourenço, explained.
The record was set in the new quay, named Santa Dulce dos Pobres. It is equipped with four Super Post-Panamax STS (ship-to-shore) cranes, among the most modern in the world, featuring a 66-meter boom and a lifting capacity of 51 meters, enabling the hoisting of up to 80 tons at a time.
The Salvador container terminal incorporates technologies that provide agility and transparency in all operational processes, including cargo management in the yard and on ships. Using the Navis N4 management software, a global market leader utilized in terminals across the Americas, Asia, and Europe, the terminal ensures greater accessibility of information for all users. This software is also responsible for the swift processing of trucks, which take approximately 26 minutes to enter and exit the terminal.
The new phase of the Bahia terminal post-expansion also involved over 7,200 hours of employee training, promoting more than 30 professionals through an internal team appreciation program, and hiring 100 new professionals. These initiatives underscore the company’s commitment to continually improving operational efficiency, aiming to enhance Tecon Salvador’s competitiveness as a logistics solution connecting Brazil to the world.
