Exports at Paraná-based ports see 15% surge year-to-date

From January to October 2023, Portos do Paraná recorded a 15% growth in export cargo. In total, 35,198,778 million tonnes were shipped, an increase of 4.5 million tonnes compared to 2022. Some of the cargoes that stood out were soybeans, sugar, and meal, with China, South Korea, and Japan as the main destinations.

According to the CEO, Luiz Fernando Garcia, “To meet the high market demand, we are working hard on the operational system and focusing on strategies for the port’s growth. In the coming months, we will start the construction of Moegão, an exclusive system for unloading grains and meals by rail, which promises a 63% increase in cargo unloading capacity.” An investment of R$ 592 million will be made for this project.

The total cargo throughput, including imports and exports, reached 53,360,117 tonnes, 3.66 million tonnes more compared to the previous year (a growth of 7.4%). The Operations Director of Portos do Paraná, Gabriel Vieira, explains, “The market showed significant demand throughout, and we optimized our berthing and unberthing maneuvers, planning logistics to serve the maximum number of ships during this period.”

The expectation is that, by the end of the year, Portos do Paraná will reach a total of 62 million tonnes imported and exported, representing a growth of approximately 6.2% compared to 2022.
